We turned up early and so we waltzed in with no reservation. It is very casual and a little cramped but very charming. Andy is English and attracts a mixed crowd of locals and tourists. He goes to the market every day and the fish is super fresh. We had some wonderful chili prawns, tempura, whole red snapper, wonderful swordfish and the crowning glory which was the tuna jaw ( highly recommended as the meat is very rich). The food was awesome. Beer and wine are available. Prices are reasonable. I would heavily recommend this restaurant
The Place
Andy's Shin Hinomoto is a great international izakaya in Yurakucho where you can have a drink in a fun and lively atmosphere. Hidden under the railroad tracks, this popular, easygoing izakaya has a typical Japanese interior - though it is run by a British expat. Tiny, filled with smoke and with an array of cheap snacks and small plates catering to the 9-5 working crowd, it's a great spot for anyone visiting Tokyo and who wants to have a feel of a traditional izakaya.
Insider Tips
The menu changes daily depending on what the market offers, but you can’t go wrong with a sashimi platter and their generously-sized karaage (fried chicken).

13 Jan 2020So good... by the time I pull out the camera, there is only bones and empty bowl of clam broth. Nice (really genuinely nice) staff, simple environment. With a gaijin boss, all foreigners can feel at home. A pity there are only 4 craft beers on offer (hey Andy, craft beer is all rage now!). But aside from that, all good. Great price too.

21 Mar 2020This place is great. I'm sorry it just is. The vibe, food and best of all the proprietor, who kind of just makes you feel welcome there. Trust me I've been to a lot of places here, and this stands out in a great way. Try the sauteed mushrooms and asparagus
