Very friendly staff, great coffee which makes you happy in the morning. I went there at around 9:30, and got my first cup of coffee in a beautiful cup, with one delicious cookie. I personally think that this is the best coffee shop I visited so far. Mind the subjectivity though :) Oh, also, there are heaters outside, so you can enjoy coffee in the terrace in winter too :)
The Place
Be greeted by the aroma of freshly-brewed coffee as you step into this warm cafe along the quiet Kamaiyamacho walkway. Rostro is a Japanese coffee house and uniquely, does not have a drink menu for dine-in customers. Instead, the cafe prefers to ask customers’ preference of coffee based on their current mood. With a full range of roasts from dark to light available, there will definitely be something to suit your tastes! Far from a gimmick, you can be sure you will be served some quality coffee as the baristas here take their coffee seriously, with Rostro’s Soleil medium roast taking home the gold at the 2019 International Coffee Tasting in Tokyo.
Insider Tips
Opt to seat outside (weather permitting), while your coffee is served in proper glass cups, and you get a free biscuit should you choose to sit inside, the price of your coffee is also about 50% more expensive.

25 Nov 2019Saw the shop on Paulo from Tokyo’s You Tube channel, he’s recommended some great places to visit and dine at, he was spot on with this place. First they ask you several questions on how you like your coffee (nutty, bitter, strong, etc) then they mix the beans you’ve requested in an old school grinder for minutes, then up blend it using grandpa’s old pocket watch to ensure proper timing, then serve it in this crazy awesome tea party cup. Best coffee I’ve experienced, thanks again Paulo!!

16 Dec 2018Latte and bagels were great. Very friendly staff and loved the atmosphere. There is no drink menu if you eat / drink inside. Barista will make your one and only coffee or tea by asking your preference.

21 Sep 2019Very authentic in a nice neighborhood setting - feels very homey. Good coffee to begin your morning (a bit light and not acidic which is very good for my morning cup - but I'd prefer a more full body for my afternoon cup). Very good bagel with honey - must try when you visit this coffee shop.
