We ordered two dishes here: 1) Spicy Tsukemen: delicious and no complaints, the soup was very nice, noodles were perfect and pork was very tender, all accompanying toppings were delicious and portions were just right. The following dashii was really good. Highly recommended! 2) Standard Ramen (No.1): presentation was amazing (see photo), only complaints were personal tastes such as preferring firmer, thinner noodles or better seared chashu. Overall really delicious! Also had a side dish of Gyoza which were very tasty. The restaurant interior was really nice, service was very friendly. Great value for money, a visit is highly recommended! English menu also available. Combined ratings: Taste - 4.5 Appearance - 5 Service - 5 Setting - 5 Value - 5 AVG = 4.9
The Place
Located along the ramen haven of Ikebukuro, Mutekiya is a small shop with a limited sitting capacity 20 pax. Serving approximately 1000 bowls of ramen each day, there is always a line waiting outside its doors from the minute they open their doors to late at night - but it is worth the effort and time to try its legendary ramen. Savoury, without being too heavy, the flavor of Mutekiya’s ramen is unmatched.

22 Feb 2020Very organized and quick service, even with a long line, so definitely worth the small wait. The broth was very rich and delicious. I got the pork-only ramen, and added just a touch of soy sauce, garlic, and pepper to maximize the flavor.

14 Jan 2020Very well priced ramen. I got the number 1 special, the most popular dish. This shop gives you the biggest chunks of pork I’ve seen at any shop. They were delicious and well prepared. The broth is very rich and flavorful. The line can be long, but they move it quickly by taking your order ahead of time. Total wait for me was about 40 minutes at 2pm on a weekday.

29 May 2020Always a great place to go for some delicious ramen. The chashu is the best! It's sooo thick as well, smallest size is at least 1cm thick. The broth is rich and not too oily. The eggs are perfectly medium boiled. The pricing is fair as well. I have been here many times and always bring a friend or 2. But be warned the shop is small and has limited space so larger groups will have to wait longer. And there is almost always a line no matter what time of day you go. One of the silly dishes they have is a 1kg of meat ramen, it's just huge super thick slices of chashu and and some noodles. I have had it once and it was good but way too much for me to finish.

22 Jul 2020Decent, if not terribly exciting tonkotsu ramen. The meat was excellent, but the broth seemed underseasoned. The stenciled greeting on the nori is also a bit shameless.
