A big and lively city, Barcelona is also home to a number of exciting neighbourhoods or barrio, as the locals call it. Each area is unique on its own with its own charming allure. From bohemian Gracia to picturesque Montjuic, here are some of the neighborhoods you have to explore!

One of the most famous and oldest barrio in Barcelona, Barrio Gotico stretches from Las Ramblas to Va Laietana and was formerly the “old city”. Characterized by the labyrinth of cobbled streets, medieval buildings and impressive architecture, much of the old neighborhood feels like a journey into the past! Monuments like the Gothic Cathedral, Basilica of La Merce, and Medieval Walls can be found here. Most of the quarter is also closed to traffic so you can have all the time and space you need to explore and enjoy the beauty of this older part of Barcelona.

This medieval neighbourhood was historically an old district where merchants and fishermen of the past dwell.

Today, the picturesque quarter is known for design and fashion where many artists install their workshops. This is also where you can find one of the oldest chapels in the city, Capella d’en Marcus. Head on towards Passeig del Born, a promenade with many bars and cafes for a little break after.
