While 2020 is the year where everyone has been forced to give up their plans, it is also the year that hobbies are being revisited and new interests are being explored. I’m no exception, mine is rock climbing.

Once a freshie, I have gone through the hassle and challenge of finding the right kind of rock climbing or bouldering gym (I know your pain!). So to save you the trouble, I’ve handpicked 5 rock climbing and bouldering gyms in Singapore that are fun, interactive and challenging for you!

Ever imagine yourself climbing up a giraffe? Or snaking up the beanstalk from the fairy tale, Jack And The Beanstalk? You can now let your imagination comes alive with Clip n’ Climb. Located at HomeTeamNS Tampines, Clip n’ Climb is far from your ordinary climbing gym. This New Zealand-based climbing playground features 19 colourfully designed climbing walls so wacky that you’ll forget you’re actually there to exercise. Can you believe it? You can actually experience climbing inside a Tetris game or challenge yourself at the Dry Ice wall!

But don’t let its quirky looks fool you! Each climbing wall stands at 8 metres and is designed to be mentally challenging with various obstacles. Still rookies? No worries, there are still some easy courses specially made for beginners. The best part? Unlike other climbing gyms, this park actually allows you and your friends to enjoy the fun of climbing at the same times due to its automatic belay system. You can also have a parent-child bonding session at its Laser Quest.

Dairy Farm

Sick of climbing indoor? Wanting to have a taste of the real outdoor rock climbing? Check out the Dairy Farm, an outdoor natural rock climbing hidden in the west of Singapore.

Located at the northern part of the Bukit Timah Nature Preserve, Dairy Farm is the only outdoor natural rock climbing in Singapore. Comprised of cliff walls and rocky outcrops, Dairy Farm offers two different formations, namely sports routes and traditional routes for climbers to challenge. However, most of the bolted routes and anchor points have been replaced due to the recently revamped of the nature reserve.

Climbing at Dairy Farm is definitely a breath of fresh air without the rules and safety policy by the indoor gyms. But of course, safety should always come first and the National Parks Board rules do apply as well since Dairy Farm is located at a nature reserve. Currently, the Dairy Farm Quarry is not officially open to the public, although avid rock climbers can still access the site regularly for their activities.
