Banh Mi 888

Nestled in the basement level of United Square, Banh Mi 888 is a hidden gem that serves authentic, fresh, and healthy Vietnamese cuisine. With the ingredients carefully sourced from Vietnam, you can be reassured of the authenticity of the dishes. All dishes on the menu, such as banh mi sandwiches, pate, mayonnaise, rice, and soup noodle dishes are prepared on the spot too. To me, this humble restaurant’s banh mi sandwiches ($6.50+) are some of the best in Singapore. For more information, feel free to check out their menu here.

Moc Quan

With flavours hailing from Ho Chi Minh City, Moc Quan is renowned for serving up some of Singapore’s best Southern Vietnamese cuisine. If you’ve been to Ho Chi Minh, you will recognise these flavours, as the chefs in this restaurant learned from the Vietnamese one dish makeshift stalls that line the streets. Similar to them, these chefs in Moc Quan also use the freshest ingredients. They even have a whole oven imported from Vietnam just to recreate the famous banh mi!
To me, the best dishes are their beef pho ($11.50), and bun thit nuong ($11.90). Pair it with their authentic Vietnamese drip coffee ($5) for the best experience.

Little Vietnam

If you’re in the east area and craving cheap and no-frills authentic Vietnamese food, Little Vietnam is your best bet. This quaint cafe is along Paya Lebar Road, and the ambiance will make you feel like you’re back in Ho Chi Minh City having a delicious meal by the roadside. Be sure to order their signature beef pho ($7.80+), deep-fried spring rolls ($5.50), and banh xeo ($6.50). In my humble opinion, they serve up some of the best banh xeo’s on the island. If you’re feeling bold, you can even add on deep-fried quails ($16)!

Banh Mi Thit by Star Baguette

Known to sell the cheapest banh mi in Singapore, Banh Mi Thit is a hidden gem in Geylang selling baguettes that range from $4.50. They specialise only in banh mi and make their baguettes in-house and from scratch. Stuffed with only the freshest ingredients and meats that range from chicken, beef, and egg, you’re bound to satisfy your tummy! However, the banh mi can get a little spicy, so if you’re not a fan of spice, I suggest getting the banh mi without the chilli.

Co Hai Banh Mi

A perfect banh mi is toasted lightly and crunchy on the outside, and airy, fluffy, and soft on the inside. At Co Hai Banh Mi, that is exactly what you get, so be sure to order some of the best banh mi in Singapore! If you love a fragrant and light broth, order their beef pho. But if you want to try something more flavourful, their standout dish beef stew ($11.50) is one of the best I’ve tried.

Long Phung

Established by a Vietnamese lady, Chi Lan, who moved to Singapore 14 years back with her family, Long Phung is renowned to sell some of the best Vietnamese food that Singapore has to offer. Dining at this eatery is like dining in a little piece of Saigon on this sunny island, with a harmonious combination of herbs and spices that are presented on their dishes. Be sure to order their hu tieu kho (dry noodle with prawn, quail egg, and pork) that is priced at $5, com suon (Vietnamese pork chop rice) that costs $6, and their iconic beef pho at $6.

Mrs Pho

Mrs Pho has some of the heartiest bowls of pho around, and one of the crowd favourites is the special beef combination noodle soup ($9.90), which has a light and flavourful broth. The beef brisket is tender and served generously, topped perfectly with beef balls. The Beach Road outlet is still the best for me, so be sure to patronise that one!
