Situated just a few minutes away from the city’s finest shopping paradise along Orchard Road, the St. Regis Singapore is a must-visit hotel destination for your next staycation.

The exquisite atmosphere and majestic interior of this five-star property by Marriott International, complemented by its internationally acclaimed St. Regis Butler Service, will transport you overseas without having to take a flight out of Singapore.

My boyfriend and I recently made use of our SingapoRediscover Vouchers (SRV) to book a 2D1N staycation at this luxurious hotel to celebrate his birthday. Read on to find out why we highly recommend the St. Regis Singapore for any romantic escapades.

The Hotel

Located on Tanglin Road, the St. Regis Singapore sits comfortably at the intersection between Singapore’s embassy district, UNESCO World Heritage Site (The Singapore Botanic Gardens), and the bustling Orchard Road.

Initially, it was difficult to spot the hotel because it looked like a condominium to us. We didn’t realize it was a hotel until we walked up to its entrance and saw the hotel’s signage. To be very honest, the property didn’t look like a luxurious hotel upon first glance, especially with its plain and dull exterior façade.

However, upon entering its lobby, our impression of the hotel changed drastically. We were met with a posh and lavish interior — proving that there is indeed, more than meets the eye.

We took our temperatures and scanned our SafeEntry while the friendly hotel staff warmly greeted us. We proceeded to the check-in counter to register our stay at 4pm, though the official check-in time was at 3pm. Fortunately, the waiting time was short as the check-in process was quick and straightforward.

The hotel’s front-desk receptionist attending to us was also very sweet as she made sure to wish my boyfriend a Happy Birthday upon finding out I had coordinated with the St. Regis Butler Team to plan a surprise for his birthday. A simple gesture like this exemplifies the excellent service that the St. Regis Singapore holds itself to.

After receiving our hotel keys, we immediately took the lift to our allocated room. As part of the hotel’s safe management measures, the lift was well-equipped with a hand sanitizer dispenser and there were a few hotel staff stationed around the lift lobby to ensure lift capacities weren’t exceeded.

The Room

My boyfriend and I booked the Grand Deluxe King Room, which came with a beautiful city view. The room featured a regal work desk, a splendid red sofa, an elegant beige-coloured chair, and a tastefully embellished king-sized bed.

We had high expectations before arriving at our hotel room, especially after seeing photos online that highlighted an artistically decorated interior. Hand-painted Chinoiserie silk wallpaper, as well as silk throw pillows enhanced its sophisticated nature.

As we set foot into our room, we were glad the St. Regis Singapore did not disappoint.

As we opened the plain and heavy white door, on our left was a full-length mirror, which we happily took advantage of for selfies. Another key feature of this pandemic staycation were the enhanced cleaning practices adopted here. Our room was furnished with a welcome sanitation kit that included face masks and hand sanitizers. We felt more assured with these detailed COVID-19 safety measures in place.

The St. Regis Butler Team was also kind enough to arrange a 250g chocolate cake with a personalized message from me to my boyfriend, a small fruit plate, and a 4-piece balloon bouquet as compliments to celebrate my boyfriend’s special day. Needless to say, he was pleasantly surprised as we walked into the room.

The room operates almost fully on smart technology, elevating the hotel experience further. We played around with the huge TV that contained premium movie channels, the Bose Lifestyle System with a Geneva speaker which enabled us to stream music via Bluetooth, and the auto blackout roller blinds that we could control in this refined yet futuristic room.

However, the most enchanting feature was its impressive French marble bathroom. The intricate detail of the space, along with its golden and warm hues, makes it intimate and romantic. It was extremely spacious with a distinctive freestanding bathtub in the center of the bathroom, a separate jet-massage and rainforest shower, as well as a separate toilet stall for privacy.

My boyfriend and I had ample space to wash up  with two basins side-by-side,  alongside vanity mirrors for each of us. Bath salts and loofahs were also provided to enrich our bathing experience (the perfect opportunity to bring along a bath bomb that you’ve always wanted to try but never got to it).

The bathroom is a paradise for those who love photoshoots, especially with another full-length mirror where we spent at least half an hour trying to take a few good shots (“a few” is an understatement as every corner of the bathroom is #instaworthy). We were also very intrigued by the great quality of the Remède bath amenities, which consisted of botanical ingredients that were gentle to the skin.

The complimentary minibar was the last feature we explored in this elegant room. We were generously supplied with bottled water, TWG tea sachets, and Brewer’s coffee packets, as well as a French press coffee maker and a hot water kettle at our disposal. As we opened the compartments of the minibar, we were greeted with an array of glasses for our own use. There was also a mini fridge for us to store the St. Regis chocolate cake to enjoy as dessert after our dinner.

The Amenities

Sadly, we missed out on the attractive hotel amenities as we decided to shop along Orchard Road and catch a midnight movie at Shaw Theatres Lido instead. We didn’t visit the Tropical Spa Pool (which I really wanted to) even though we managed to secure a slot in the morning because we woke up late and had to forgo our booking (you can try to call the concierge to rebook a different time slot but no guarantees).

Side note: As part of the COVID-19 safe distancing measures, guests can only book a slot for the Tropical Spa Pool on the day of their check-in.

This tropical-themed free-access outdoor pool with a lounge can be found on the second level — a secret hideout from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city life.

For all you fitness junkies, there’s also an ultra-modern, 24-hour Fitness Centre for you to work out at your convenience during your stay.

The hotel’s free-access Fitness Centre features TechnoGym equipment that serve to enhance workouts.

Side note: You may also need to book a slot with the hotel to access the Fitness Centre due to #covidrestrictions.

Finally, to top off your stay at The St. Regis Singapore, you can pamper yourself at the highly commended Remède Spa where luxury and relaxation conjoin. Rejuvenate at the complimentary spa facilities on your allocated treatment day, such as the outdoor Spa Garden, the Aqua Reflexology Footpath, and the eucalyptus-scented Steam Chambers.

The Remède Spa is a calming contemporary haven for those seeking a tranquil space to revitalize. You can even opt to experience extravagance at its finest with the hotel’s PEDI:MANI:CURE Studio.

Dining

Our staycation package included a three-course dinner and a breakfast buffet at Brasserie Les Saveurs, which specializes in French cuisine. All we can say is that the dinner was scrumptious, and the breakfast was remarkable.

We chose our appetizers, main courses, and desserts from the restaurant’s epicurean À La Carte menu for our three-course dinner. We began with French onion soup served with country bread and Comté cheese, as well as escargots prepared with garlic parsley butter, bread crumbs, and green salad. Following that, we had the Iberico pork loin complemented by baby carrots, carrot purée, orange and honey apple jus, alongside the steamed barramundi garnished with fennel, zucchini, broccolini, clam velouté, and green oil. The dinner ended off with a sweet finishing touch of crème brûlée and choux à la noisette.

Although we were still slightly hungry after the three-course dinner set (that’s because my boyfriend and I eat a whole lot in general), the breakfast buffet was amazing with a wide range of options available — including both Asian and Epicurean cuisines.

My boyfriend and I ordered the Epicurean omelette, Chinese congee and Singapore laksa which were delightful. But what we really loved most were its brioche French toast as well as its Belgian waffles and pancakes, which were complemented with mixed berry compote and whipped cream. There are even dim-sum selections, cereal, and cold items such as smoked salmon and assorted cheese platters for you to choose from.

However, one slight complaint from our end would be the long waiting time. It took almost an hour or more for our food to arrive, and at least half an hour for our drinks to be served during the breakfast buffet. While we understand the current restrictions refrain us from getting our own food buffet-style, we were still disappointed especially since we waited from 9:30am only to have our food served at 10:45am.

As such, we cancelled our booking for the Tropical Spa Room at 11am to enjoy our breakfast before checking out at 12pm. Luckily, the food was delightful, and we had a hearty breakfast which compensated for the lengthy wait time.

Other than Brasserie Les Saveurs (French cuisine), The St. Regis Singapore houses four other unique dining options with multicultural cuisines: Yan Ting (Chinese cuisine), Astor Bar (New York cuisine), Shinji By Kanesaka (Japanese cuisine), and The Drawing Room (International cuisine).

The Location

ION Orchard Singapore

The nearest train station to the hotel is Orchard MRT Station (NS22). You can either walk from Exit E of the train station to the hotel for about 10 minutes, or take a bus to Aft Tomlinson Rd (B09159) which is a minute away from the hotel. You'll be in close proximity to shopping destinations such as ION Orchard, Tang's, Paragon, and much more.

If you prefer dining outside of the hotel, there are many eateries along Orchard Road, so you won’t run out of dining options! Otherwise, as a fellow couch potato, I suggest ordering in so you can be comfortably dressed in soft, fluffy hotel bathrobes and slippers while eating.

Final Verdict

My boyfriend and I really loved our stay at the St. Regis Singapore and would definitely go back again for a luxurious getaway if we have the chance to.

We felt it was a pity we didn’t get to try out the wonderful amenities of this fancy hotel as there was no late check-out available. So, we will strive to be punctual for our next check-in to have time to explore and enjoy the property’s features. In the meantime, we will continue saving up to fund our following staycations (#lifeofastudent) and fondly reminisce on this wonderful stay.
