Believe it or not, you can celebrate love, no matter what your relationship status is. Whether you’re cuddling up with your loved one or celebrating Cupid’s holiday with friends or even by yourself, there’s bound to be a romantic movie for anyone.
From the highly-anticipated final installment in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy (Always and Forever: Lara Jean) to modern favourites like Holidate and 27 Dresses to old classics such as Titanic and Romeo + Juliet, there is a wide array of movies in the romance genre for you to choose from.
Here are some movies you can watch on Netflix — have your tissues and popcorn at the ready!
To All the Boys: Always and Forever

The newest movie on this list, To All the Boys: Always and Forever will be released on February 12, 2021, a mere two days before Valentine’s Day. This is also the final installment in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before film series. Follow Lara Jean Covey as she prepares for the end of high school and the start of adulthood. A pair of life-changing trips leads her to reimagine what life with her family, friends, and Peter will look like after graduation. Starring Lana Condor and Noah Centineo, get ready to say goodbye to them too as this is the last film in the beloved series!
Valentine’s Day

True to its namesake, this movie takes place in Los Angeles, California, on (you guessed it right) Valentine’s Day. It follows several couples and their struggles that are related to their love lives, while those characters who are single try their best to find love. Overall, these characters overcome their challenges to make things work. The movie boasts a star-studded cast, ranging from Taylor Swift to Julia Roberts to Taylor Lautner, just to name a few.
Pride and Prejudice

Even though there are quite a few adaptations of Jane Austen’s timeless romance classic, the 2005 Pride and Prejudice film is the best, thanks to the cinematography, humour, and of course, the undeniable chemistry between Elizabeth Bennet, who is played by Keira Knightley, and Mr. Darcy, who is played by Matthew Macfadyen. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy end up reluctantly falling in love with each other despite their social classes, but can they overcome their own pride and prejudice?
Titanic

Titanic is one of the highest-grossing films of all time, a tale featuring an epic romance based on accounts of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. It stars Kate Winslet as Rose, who hails from an aristocratic family and is set to be married to a man she doesn’t love. When she boards the Titanic on its ill-fated maiden voyage, she meets Jack Dawson (who is played by Leonardo DiCaprio), an artist from a lower social class, and falls in love with him. This tragic tale will force you to keep your tissues at the ready!
27 Dresses

27 Dresses is a poignant romantic comedy, perfect for you and your beau if you two aren’t in the mood for tragedy. It follows Jane (who is played by Katherine Heigl), a woman who has served as a bridesmaid 27 times, and her journey as her younger sister announces her engagement to the man she has a secret crush on. At the same time, she also meets a cynical journalist (James Marsden) with a hidden agenda. This rom-com might have been a tad bit corny for my taste, but hey, was it entertaining!
Holidate

Holidate is about two singles who become each other’s plus-ones and slowly fall in love. In my humble opinion, this is one of the better modern romcoms that have been released in the past few years. Emma Roberts, who plays Sloane, and Luke Bracey, who plays Jackson, have instant chemistry and both of them carried this flick impeccably. If you’re fed up and single, this movie might inspire you to find your very own platonic plus-one all year long, only to eventually catch feelings along the way.
Set It Up

Set It Up is a rom-com about two overworked and underpaid employees who come up with an elaborate plan to hook their overbearing bosses together to get them off their backs and make their lives easier. Even though the plot is simple, the actors (Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Lucy Liu, and Taye Diggs, to name a few) are amazing and kept me hooked. This flick is perfect to watch with some popcorn!
Romeo + Juliet

Somehow, Romeo + Juliet blends modernity with a Shakespearean classic beautifully, with wonderful acting by Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays Romeo, and Claire Danes, who plays Juliet. The rivalry and hatred between Verona’s two well-established families, the Montagues and the Capulets, affect the relationship of the children of the respective families, Romeo and Juliet. Prepare a box of tissues for this, you’re bound to end up crying!
