With six locations scattered across Central Singapore, Plain Vanilla is a must-try for any pastry and sweet-treat lover. Besides aesthetic and cozy storefronts, they also offer online orders for the same day, or next day collection. From mouthwatering, beautifully crafted cupcakes and tarts to simple delicacies such as brownies and cookies, its desserts will force you to leave with something in hand.

I visited Plain Vanilla’s Telok Ayer location bright and early at 8:30am on a Monday morning. The cafe was just getting started with its daily operations. Within minutes, people started to file through doors, lining up to purchase their morning pastries and cup of coffee. The smell of freshly baked goods were piping out the doors and into the streets of Singapore. After looking at its menu for quite some time, amazed by all the different options, I finally settled on the Maple Granola Bowl from the breakfast menu and went to grab a seat outside in the alfresco dining area.

Plain Vanilla also serves amazing coffee, as seen in its diverse beverage menu. Ranging from lattes and cappuccinos to tea, and from smoothies to cold-pressed juice, there is certainly something on the menu for everyone.

The cafe is also a great spot for individuals to do work. With strong Wi-Fi enclosed within the cafe and plenty of seating, it is a nice, minimalist space to get some work done. You can choose to sit inside or outside — both give off chill and cozy vibes.

Plain Vanilla strives to execute simple food done consistently well. This well-loved establishment wants to go back to basics in a simple and minimalistic matter. It prioritizes small batches using fresh produce, real wholesome ingredients, and no artificial preservatives. Not only does Plain Vanilla put care into the baked goods it serves, the interior design of its locations also receive the same care and level of attention.

Each brick-and-mortar shop has a slightly different vibe, but all of them are consistent with a light brown, wooden feel and white brick walls. It also places a strong emphasis on the feel of nature, taking advantage of Singapore’s lush greenery. Its pastries are served in minimalist dishes and its attention to plating is carefully curated. From my visit, I definitely felt it was a beautiful and nourishing experience for the mind and the body.
