While the music industry in Singapore is not the most well known, there are still multiple amazing local musicians to listen to. As part of the #supportlocal initiative, we have come up with a few local Singaporean musicians for you to check out today.Who knows, you might find your new favourite song.

Joie Tan

This Singaporean singer-songwriter released her debut album in 2018 titled “Joie”. Her music is a mix of multiple genres from jazz to pop. The former LASALLE student got into music in her early years of childhood when she witnessed her father writing devotional songs for the temple. She started her career on YouTube, where she currently has 12.7k followers.

Astronauts

Astronauts is a 4-piece Singaporean R&B band, known for their pumped up music and live performances. Formed in 2016, this local band made a name for themselves in Singapore from the 2016 Starker Music Carnival, before releasing their debut single, titled ‘Get Close’ in 2017. Their music is funky and upbeat, making you want to get to the beat and do a little dance. 

Islandeer

Founded by a Singaporean duo, Michael Garcia and Christian Jansen, Islandeer is a band that draws inspiration for their music from multiple bands from the 60s and 70s. Their music includes styles of pop and indie rock. If you are a fan of The Beatles, Radiohead and the Strokes, this band is just up your alley.

Caracal

Caracal is a post-hardcore band, founded in 2009. This band is always going through changes - searching for an ‘elusive, calming creative balance’ as stated on their website. After a 2 year break, this band came back with a new line up in 2018, with their new single Manicenigmatic. And in October 2020, they introduced a new member of their band during Scape’s Music Day Out. If you are into rock and metal, this band is for you.

Haven

You might have seen this singer on instagram, with her e-girl aesthetic, attracting multiple followers to her page. This young 17-year-old singer has recently signed with a local music label, releasing multiple singles this year. Her music style is similar to hip-hop in the 90s, edgy and full of emotion. Even throughout this pandemic, she has been finding new ways get creative with her work.

Lewloh

Lewloh is a local singer-songwriter that translates his emotions and thoughts into music. He released his debut album in 2017, titled ‘Lullacry’, at his sold out album launch. Before his debut album, his rendition of Our Singapore went viral on Singapore Police Force Facebook Page in 2015. His music is warm, comforting and relatable. Over the years, he has collaborated with multiple artists, both local and global.
