The perfect movie to get you right in your feels for the holiday season, Home Alone, is a classic! Set during Christmas it follows the adventures of Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin, who got left behind by his family and battles thieves at home. Goofy, witty and iconic, this film will definitely make you crave hot chocolate even in sunny Singapore!

One of my personal favourite romantic comedies, The Holiday features a star studded cast which includes Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. The film follows two women from different countries who swap homes during the holidays and find love in a new place! Charming and full of the holiday spirit, this feel good rom-com does just the job to fill the air with romance during the holidays.

Elf (2003)

If you are in it for a good laugh, then Elf is the movie of choice! A box-office phenomenon, the film explores a child-like mischief that is in all of us as we watch Buddy who was raised in the North Pole, played by Will Ferrell, go on a journey to New York City to find his biological father all the while he is convinced that he is an elf. Thoughtful and funny, watch as Buddy learns of the newness of human culture and navigate his way through the big city.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Tim Burton’s films are always a yes for me and The Nightmare Before Christmas is the perfect mix of my two favourite holidays, Halloween and Christmas! Set in the snowy little place aptly named Christmas Town, this movie has snowmans, candy canes and Christmas carols with a spooky twist! Find enchanting characters like Jack Skellington, his Frankenstein girlfriend, Sally, and lovable dog, Zero, go on an adventure to bring back the joy of Christmas into their lives.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Everyone loves Jim Carrey and the Grinch is an iconic character during Christmas! How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a classic holiday story based on Dr. Seuss book, which follows the mean-spirited Grinch who gets ironically nominated to be the town’s “Holiday Cheermeister”. Watch the transformation of the Grinch who hates Christmas in this cheeky movie!

Bad Santa (2003)

Enjoy black comedy films? Then Bad Santa is your pick for movie night! Starring Billy Bob Thornton as Santa, his depiction of the character is not quite what you imagine. Depressed and an alcoholic, the Santa in this film kicks department store reindeers to pieces and is a funny new take on the character. A twisted comedy perfect for laughs during this time of the year!

Last Christmas (2019)

Definitely to put you in the mood for Christmas, Last Christmas will have you singing the popular “Wham!” song long after the movie is over! The movie follows the life of Kate, played by Emilia Clarke, who works in an all-year round Christmas store and who finds herself through love and the alluring holiday spirit. Featuring casts like Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson, let the spirit of Christmas blow you away!

Little Women (2019)

While not entirely Christmas-y in comparison to the other films listed, Little Women is a definite must-watch which features incredible scenes of White Christmas in New England! This classic film remake is a coming-of-age period drama which also won an impressive number of awards including an Oscar. It retells the life of the March sisters who are passionate and determined, pursuing a life they see fit for themselves! Uplifting and heart-warming, Little Women is a perfect portrayal of familial and self love.

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas (2011)

Follow stoner buddies, Harold Lee played by John Cho and Kumar Patel played by Kal penn, on their (mis)adventures during the holiday season across New York City in A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas. While I cannot quite relate to finding the perfect Christmas tree for the festivities, watching two stoned men struggle to succeed in doing so is quite the sight to see, and to have stitches laughing over!

The Polar Express (2004)

The Polar Express is a classic tale of a trip taken during Christmas Eve to the North Pole told in a hyper-realistic animation! This magical journey taken will definitely make you feel as though you are on the same train, so bask in the spirit of Christmas with the characters riding the locomotive. The film features cast members such as Tom Hanks, Micheal Jeter, Daryl Sabara and more!
