Gyeongbokgung Palace

The main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty is the Gyeongbokgung Palace. It is the largest and arguably, the most beautiful of the five grand palaces. Once the home of kings, it is now the host of the National Palace Museum and the National Folk Museum. You can also catch the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony where a new group of soldiers takes over the current one. Located on the Namsan Mountain in central Seoul, N Seoul Tower is an iconic spot not only popular amongst the locals but the tourists alike. Featured in many famous Korean dramas, one of the best features of this site is the “love padlock” activity where couples secure personally decorated padlocks and leave them on the tower fence.

Insadong

Insadong is where you can experience the traditional charm of South Korea. Get lost in the maze-like alleys where 100 galleries exist in the area housing traditional Korean fine art. You will also find traditional restaurants, teahouses, and cafes, perfect for when you need a little break! On the weekends, the main street is transformed into a cultural space where you can experience traditional Korean culture and buy pieces of fine art.

Built during the Joseon Dynasty, Seoul City Wall stretches for 18.6km around Seoul. The walls were made of stone, wood, and other materials to protect the city against the invaders. A perfect spot for those who love to hike, there are various mountain trails you can take to enjoy the view of the city and more! 

Dongdaemun Design Plaza

The newest and most iconic landmark of Seoul, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, designed by a world-renowned architect, Zaha Hadid is the venue for design-related exhibitions, events, and more. Within the plaza, is the Design Market which combines culture, experiences, and shopping all in one place. This iconic building is also the site where Seoul Fashion Week takes place!

Cheonggyecheon Stream

Running through 11km into downtown Seoul and created as part of an urban renewal project, Cheonggyecheon Stream goes from Gwanghwamun, the heart of Seoul to Dongdaemun. 

Insider tip: It is the perfect spot to chill out after a long day of sightseeing as you can dip your travel-weary feet into the cool stream.

Bukchon Hanok Village

Bukchon Hanok Village is where you can find hundreds of traditional houses which dates back to the Joseon dynasty. While this is an actual residential area, many of the houses also operate as cultural centers, guesthouses. Want to truly immerse yourself? Don on the traditional costumes that you can rent in the area and wander the village to your heart’s content!

Gwanghwamun Gate

The southern gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the Gwanghwamun Gate is known for its three arched gates. Having gone through multiple periods of destruction and repair, the gate is on top of the “must-see list” for many tourists and a beautiful reminder of South Korean history. Located near Bukchon Hanok Village, Insadong and Gyeongbukgung, this gate is easily accessible and should be in one of your stopovers!

National Museum of Korea

Home to a collection of over 220, 000 million artifacts across the long history of the nation to the current modern day, the National Museum of Korea is a great location for the history buffs or simply for those who want to learn more about Korea. There is also a Children’s Museum in the premises where all can learn through educational programs and experiences.
