The Old City Walls

Finest in the world and the city’s most famous landmark, The Old City Walls is where you can get the best view of the old town and its surroundings. Running 1940 meters long and home to six different fortresses, walking down these walls are a definite must-do when you visit this historic city. These enormous walls will not only throw you back in time but will also indulge you in the incredible view of the shining Adriatic sea. This UNESCO’s Croatian World Heritage Site also has 16 different towers along the walls including the Sveti Ivan Tower, the largest one. 

Stradun of Dubrovnik

Dividing the northern and southern parts of the Old Town, you will find Stradun of Dubrovnik, a main street that also acts as the local promenade. Closed to traffic, this street is entirely pedestrianised for over 50 years and is filled with cafes, shops and restaurants for you to explore and enjoy. Stradun of Dubrovnik is so popular that most of the streets within the Old Town will lead you here!

Built in the 18th century, the construction of the Dubrovnik Cathedral and Treasury is often tied to the legend of King Richard the Lion-Hearted. This fabled the tale of how the king was saved from a shipwreck and in gratitude, he contributed financially to the completion of the building. The treasury can be found within the cathedral and is home to 132 relics of saints, an absolute treat for the history buffs and art lovers!

Loggia Square

Historically a central gathering point for all, Loggia Square is also where you can find many of the city’s important and popular buildings and monuments like Orlando’s Column and the Loggia of the Bells. Within the square, you can also find the Church of St. Blaise embellished with its impressive Baroque facade and home to a number of works of art. With so much to see in one place, this Square is a must for those who are short on time and want to have an idea of the deep history and culture of the incredible old city.

Fort Lovrijenac

Sitting on top of a 37 meter high rock that overlooks the sea, Fort Lovrijenac is one of the most spectacular spots in the city. This historical fortress was responsible in defending the city against any attack from land or sea and is an impressive sight to all who sees it. Known also as “Dubrovnik’s Gibraltar”, this fort is also famous for the inscription carved in stone above the entrance door that reads: freedom cannot be sold for all the gold of the world. 

The Dominican Monastery

Located in the Eastern part of the city, The Dominican Monastery is one of the most culturally important buildings as the museum holds many precious art and artefacts throughout Dubrovnik’s history. Over centuries, this monastery has been rebuilt many times over but still continues to hold cultural importance.
