I’m not one for fear-mongering, but when it comes to skincare, vegan skincare can really be better for you. After all, it contains way fewer ingredients, resulting in a stark decrease in potential irritants.

In addition, vegan skincare carries the same core values the wave of veganism aims to bring to the table: being kinder to the earth, which means less waste. In a world where consumerism is hurting the planet, it's truly the little things that count.

Start doing your part by purchasing from these local, vegan, and sustainable skincare brands — we’re sure your skin will thank you for it as well.

5 to 5 Skincare

Despite being the new kid on the block, 5 to 5 Skincare has already made its way into the hearts of the local skincare community. While its skincare line is simple (it currently has only three products), tons of research has gone into the formulations to make them as effective as possible. Its products work especially for people who have compromised moisture barriers (if you have dry, itchy, red skin, that’s you).

Airless pumps and sustainable packaging are also part of its game plan, making this one eco-conscious brand to look out for.

For hardcore vegans out there, do note that while its cleanser is completely vegan, its moisturiser contains cholesterol, a derivative of lanolin, which in itself is sourced from sheep’s wool.

Besides reducing waste through a tailored skincare approach, this local skincare brand also adapts a 100% clean promise. What this means is that its products are not only good for the environment, but for your skin as well. The cherry on the top? All bottles are completely recyclable, so there’s no excuse if you’re not popping it into a recycling bin.

The brand is working towards making its process even more sustainable in the meantime — we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.

Sigi Skin products are not only vegan, but great for your skin as well. This beloved local brand takes the claim of green beauty very seriously. For one, the formulations contain no nasties and chemical preservatives that harm the environment (and potentially, your skin). Did we mention it also has some completely waterless products in its lineup, which also mean less water wastage?

Most of its products also incorporate an airless pump system, which reduces the need for unnecessary plastic, while cutting down on product wastage at the same time. Talk about an overachiever.

RE:ERTH

Not only does this brand use a host of powerhouse ingredients from Japan such as turmeric and cherry blossom flower extract, but also a host of literature to back up its ingredient choices and efficacy — not many skincare brands can boast that it has science-backed research journals to its name. The company focuses on pouring all its resources into a few key essentials, not to mention it also has an amazing recycling initiative to get everyone in on the action.

While some other brands have in-house recycling programmes for its own products, RE:ERTH accepts empty bottles from any brand — no discrimination here! The hassle of dismantling and cleaning up the bottles is eliminated here, just take it to one of their locations in Singapore and you’re good to go.
